Rock um Knuedler est le nom d’un festival de musique en plein air qui a lieu chaque année début juillet à Knuedler à Luxembourg – Ville.
Le festival a débuté en 1991, lorsque le Luxembourg a pris la présidence de la Communauté européenne. Au cours de la présidence semestrielle de janvier à juin 1991, un groupe dirigé par le ministère de la Culture élabore un programme culturel. Roby Schuler du Syndicat d’Initiative de l’ État, qui était membre de ce groupe, a proposé d’organiser un concert en plein air de musique rock.
Son idée était de faire jouer quelques groupes luxembourgeois devant un public plus large dans de bonnes conditions techniques. Le concert a ensuite été inscrit en plus de quelques concerts classiques et de quelques expositions sur la liste des organisations officielles dans le cadre de la Présidence européenne luxembourgeoise.
Le 22 juin 1991 , le premier rocher sur le Knuedler passe devant 3 000 personnes. Fort de son grand succès, le festival s’est imposé au fil du temps comme une date fixe dans le calendrier d’organisation du Syndicat d’Initiative.
Afin d’augmenter le nombre de groupes, une deuxième piste a été ajoutée. De plus, l’attractivité a été augmentée par des groupes étrangers bien connus qui étaient pour la plupart inclus comme têtes d’affiche.
En 2000, le festival a été divisé en deux jours.
Rock um Knuedler est une organisation de la Ville de Luxembourg avec le Ministère de la Culture. L’organisateur est le Syndicat d’Initiative de la ville.
Dans les premières années, des CD échantillonneurs des concerts ont également été enregistrés.
Le nombre de visiteurs est passé de 3 000 la première année à environ 15 000 ces dernières années.
Au total, une vingtaine de groupes de styles différents se produisent sur les 3 scènes (Lion Stage comme scène principale, Horse Stage et Clairfontaine Stage).
